The Verdict
Sinners is an original period horror that uses a vampire allegory to explore Black culture, music, and exploitation in the Jim Crow-era South. Its predominantly Black cast fits the historical setting and its racial themes are folded into the genre story rather than preached. There's little to no identity-swapping, LGBTQ+ messaging, or anti-male framing — the social commentary is thematic, not a lecture.
