The Verdict
Ready Player One is a nostalgia-soaked adventure that largely avoids heavy-handed identity messaging. Its diverse cast fits the avatar-driven premise where players hide behind virtual identities, and its only real theme — choosing real life over digital escape — is woven into the plot rather than preached. (spoiler) The reveal that Aech is a woman behind a male avatar serves the story's identity-is-fluid-online idea rather than functioning as a lecture.
