The Verdict
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is a near-spotless family adventure on the WokeMeter — its acclaim comes from craft and a genuinely moving meditation on mortality, not identity messaging. Kitty Softpaws is a strong female character, but she's an equal partner rather than a vehicle for male demotion, and there's no LGBTQ+ content, swaps, or preaching. Clean across the board.
What the AI Flagged
Category explanations and examples behind the assessment. Internal category scores and the exact calculation are private; external sources appear below when available.
Identity Swaps
No established characters are race- or gender-swapped; the cast is consistent with the franchise.
Girlboss & Male Demotion
Kitty Softpaws is a competent, capable female lead and equal to Puss, but the film never diminishes or mocks men as a message.
- Kitty is a skilled fighter and Puss's equal partner
- Puss remains a competent, central hero throughout
LGBTQ+ / Trans / Non-Binary Content
No LGBTQ+, trans, or non-binary characters or themes present.
DEI Casting
A fairytale fantasy world with anthropomorphic animals; casting choices fit the whimsical setting with no quota feel.
Preachiness
Themes of mortality, fear, and family are emotionally explored but woven into the story without sermonizing.
- Puss confronts his mortality via the Death wolf
- Found-family theme with Perrito and Kitty
Anti-Masculinity / Anti-West
No anti-masculine, anti-West, or anti-tradition messaging.
Source Betrayal
An original sequel built on the Shrek-universe Puss in Boots; no agenda-driven rewrite of source characters.
