The Verdict
Open Season is a straightforward, gag-driven animated buddy comedy with essentially no identity messaging. Its only thematic lean is a light anti-hunting/pro-nature angle that never rises above kid-friendly comedy. Clean across the board.

Category explanations and examples behind the assessment. Internal category scores and the exact calculation are private; external sources appear below when available.
Identity Swaps
Original animated characters; nothing to swap.
Girlboss & Male Demotion
Male leads with no anti-male messaging; the hunter Shaw is a comic villain, not a gender statement.
LGBTQ+ / Trans / Non-Binary Content
No LGBTQ+ content present.
DEI Casting
A talking-animal comedy with no real-world demographic stakes.
Preachiness
Mild pro-nature, anti-overhunting sentiment, but it's played for comedy and never sermonizes.
- Forest animals rally against hunters during open season
Anti-Masculinity / Anti-West
Hunters are the antagonists, but framed as buffoonish comedy rather than an ideological attack on masculinity or the West.
- Shaw the over-the-top hunter villain
Source Betrayal
Original story, no source material to betray.
